Be Careful What You Drop Today

Drop a pebble in the water: just a splash, and it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center, flowing on out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling where the end is going to be.

Drop an unkind word, or careless: in a minute it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on.
They keep spreading, spreading, spreading from the center as they go,
And there is no way to stop them, once you’ve started them to flow.

Drop a word of cheer and kindness: just a flash and it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
And you’ve rolled a wave of comfort whose sweet music can be heard
Over miles and miles of water just by dropping one kind word.

  1. I really like the message of this post. We sometimes forget how powerful our small words and actions can be and that the effects of them are far reaching and long lasting. If we could all grasp the opportunity we have to make a positive effect on the lives around us think how much happier our world would be.

    • And I think it works! I believe it’s becoming a universal symbol signifying that all action, good or bad, has a rippling effect …kindness especially. 🙂 Thanks, Debbie.

    ie, no matter what we do or think, we’re gonna have an effect –

    not that it’s not sometimes a struggle, but it’s our choices how…

    nicely put, thank you 😉

  3. So wonderfully true. My son and I were just talking about that the other day. That when we commit an act of kindness…we just never know how far reaching that act of kindness will be. Great post.

  4. Hi Paul – so glad you found my site, and I hope it feels like a *gift* dropped into your life whenever you get a post from me. That’s my intention, so I trust it’ll be so.

    I like what you’re doing here. And, I got a big smile from the image…I just came out of a reiki session in which I had a strong visual image (which I don’t usually get) of rippling water. LOVE it when those things happen.

    Thanks for all your work of raising the vibration! Peace – Julianna

    I’m a re-blogger today. This is a post from one of my favorite blogs. I liked the sentiments in this poem so much I thought I would share. It is such a simple yet profound reminder of how powerful our words and actions are in our relationships, our lives, our spheres of influence. Enjoy and ponder.
